Am and Shawn Lee have put up some new stuff from their new album La Musiqe Numerique on youtube! This one is called ‘Two Times’.

I also came accross a great interview with the two and there’s a few more songs posted on there as well (link below). So far, very very good stuff fellas. I loved the last album and this one already seems as good or better!

One of my besties and former roomie Celeste enlightened me to Daughter.. I’d hear this gorgeous music through the wall and ask her who it was, over and over, until I started to recognize and love the songs. Candles and The Woods are my favorites (links take you to these songs on Spotify). They really pull my heartstrings, in the best way. Celeste and our good friend Jonathan, of Corbu, created the loveliest cover of The Woods. Listen!

Today this wonderfully talented North London based trio gives us a full length, If You Leave. I can thank Spotify again for the notification. I’m now listening to it and it’s most beautiful. The album cover is above, along with a cute photo of them pulled from their Facebook page.

They’re playing Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night and I unfortunately cannot go, but I hope to catch them live soon.

PATTERNS and Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr.
These are two of my favorite things!
My first Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr experience was last year at Bonnaroo. I was BLOWN AWAY. Their energy is insane. Infectious. I was in love, immediately, and it was my very first time hearing their music. They are one of the most fun bands I have ever experienced live. And that’s really saying a lot.. I go to a LOT of shows & festivals :)
Their latest EP, Patterns, fully delivers that exuberant energy and color, with cute melodies and beats that make you want to dance your ass off. The design works quite well and really looks the way the music sounds. Super fun. I wish they were coming back to Bonnaroo this year! But Texas.. they’re coming for you - check them out!

JAMIE LIDELL!

I have an obsession. I cannot help it. It started when I heard the first 2 songs from Multiply (Released 2005 .. though I was not enlightened until 2007). He’s freakin’ out of control! A “hyperkinetic loon,” according to Pitchfork (meant “in the best way possible.”) If you are not familiar.. I say start with the song Multiply and go from there.

He’s just released a self titled album, accompanied by bright geometric shapes all over his face (4th image pictured). I’m very much digging the new album. Blaming Something and You Know My Name are my faves. Also into the weirdness that is the song why_ya_why. This record has a similar vibe to Multiply, which I loved so so much. Jim was much more soulful and doo-woppy, which I also loved so much.

I took the photos above at one of the Warp20 shows. Jamie Lidell headlined Le Poisson Rouge, with openers Born Ruffians and The Hundred in The Hands. See more of my photos from that whole night here, if you feel so inclined!

Tonight, I am ridiculously thrilled to be working at Glasslands for Jamie’s headlining show. It’s gonna be crazy awesome..

I like these girls! They’re sisters. They’re fun. They have awesome style. Most importantly, they have a fantastic sound and I’m really happy to see it catching on. Their songs are empowering and make me want to dance. I was driving through Greenpoint earlier in the warm sunshine (finally!!) and was blasting their jam, Forever. They are like a modern Wilson Phillips! As a young girl, I was OBSESSED with Wilson Phillips. “Hoooold on.. for one more day.. things’llgoyourwayyyyy..”

I had the pleasure of meeting them when they headlined Glasslands a few months back. I hadn’t yet heard of them but the show was sold out, so I figured they must be decent. They were very friendly and sweet to me (I was working the door), even offering me a piece of gum :) I can say with confidence that their performance blew me away!

Do catch their live set if you get the chance. Don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

One of my most favorite activities as a kid was walking under the hot Texas sun through the suburbs of Carrollton to Blockbuster Music. That was a thing, once. There, I would sift through new releases.. check out the used CDs, and gather up a collection to take to the listening station. I’d be there for hours and hours. Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Colie & The Infinite Sadness.. Better Than Ezra, Live, Natalie Imbruglia, Erasure.. sigh. That’s how we heard music. It took EFFORT! I was pretty young, and didn’t have money to actually buy anything most of the time. I don’t think they cared one bit.
It’s pretty incredible thinking about that time in music. Was it so long ago? 1995.. the year 2000. And then.. IPODS!
The birth of the digital music era.

Well, flash forward to Brooklyn in 2013.. I have been commissioned to design a poster for Chris Cohen’s show at Shea Stadium May 15th. I know I quite liked what teeny bit of his music I have heard. He has the track, “Caller No.99” up on his bandcamp, Captured Tracks, & Pitchfork.
A lovely, sun drenched stoned funday of a ditty! I needed more! A full album! Well, that’s simple. Instant. Free. Because Spotify exists. Hooray!! I’m genuinely stoked on Spotify altogether. The free version was fine for a bit but I think they purposely make those ads so cutesy and frequent they become intolerable. After a couple months of putting up with those, I went for the free trial which gets me unlimited streaming of whatever I want! I’m sold. Now I’m paying $10 a month and it’s well worth it to me. Deerhunter radio might be the only thing I ever need to listen to.

Now some might say, “that totally sucks.. you’re not buying music.”
This is true; it is very rare for me to pay for digital music. Do you? Did I ever really spend a lot of money on music? Nah. I do pay for (or get guest listed!) to lots and lots of live shows. I Bonnaroo and SXSW regularly. I buy good merch from artists I love and want to support. I buy vinyl from my favorite artists. And Spotify does pay artists a small bit per play. Most days, I am listening to music on it ALL DAY LONG while I work, so that’s got to add up! I’m essentially buying Blackbird Blackbird and St. Vincent a nice lunch, perhaps? Plus the playlist sharing and social functions are pretty fun. The Tastebuds.fm social/dating app within Spotify is also pretty interesting. The one drawback is - Spotify does not have evvverything. No Radiohead - In Rainbows.. But I obviously own that on vinyl. Or if I want to rock out to The Beatles via the interwebs, gotta seek elsewhere. I’m fine with that.

For the newest yet to be released full album listens, NPR Music’s First Listens are my go-to.

If you recall my California love post from last summer, chock full of gorgeous california images I captured, you know I’m a sucker for the west coast.

Best Coast clearly feel the same.. I’m a little late to listening to their latest release, The Only Way, but it’s on my soundtrack for today. It’s pretty awesome the way that happened - I just caught a glimpse on my Spotify side bar that a friend was listening to this. Go, technology!

Anyway, I think this album cover is the most adorable thing ever! I think I will buy it on vinyl and frame that little California loving bear! <3

I don’t have anything to say to anyone particularly except to you guys that Starfucker and this new album Miracle Mile is the shit! This song is my favorite overall. $5 if you don’t get this song stuck in your head after hearing it. Such a catchy tune!
